HISTORY;
Jarvis has led such an unremarkable life serving House Vernhail that many of the younger nobles took to creating histories for him. In the most commonly repeated version, he used to be a hermit who kept hundreds of animals in a shack in some Hanalan wood, and the current Lord of the House found him and brought him back to be a personal bodyguard for the family. It's entirely false, although Jarvis did live in Hanalan for part of his life, and does keep a wide variety of animals in his home... which leads many people to wonder if the stories are more factual than they're intended to seem.

Whether or not the stories are true, Jarvis has been with House Vernhail for a good portion of his life and often serves as a voice of authority among the younger guards, although most of them tend to be too scared to ever ask him for help or advice. Among the stories invented to liven up Jarvis' history is one mentioning how he saved the life of the current Lord of House Vernhail at one point, and the house he currently lives in was a reward for it.

Jarvis doesn't make a point of proving or disproving any of the stories, although he does have the tendency to tell people just how preposterous they are.

In actuality his parents died when he was really young. The clergy left him with House Vernhail to be squired by one of their Knights as they thought it would do the boy some good. He was rambunctious, rude, disrespectful, and rarely did what he was told to do. Being forced into being a Squire and later into Knighthood was not his idea of a good time. While in his mid-teens, Jarvis became fed up with the strict life of a squire and ran off. He eventually made it to Hanalan where he lived in a small shack not far from a military encampment. Jarvis would often watch the soldiers training with fascination and an amazement over how they respected their generals, even if they were absolutely terrible at being soldiers.

After a few weeks he finally decided to return to Dentoria to finish squiring and gain his Knighthood. Unfortunately his triumphant return didn't go near as well as he had planned and his Knight gave him a heavy beating and the worst chores imaginable to make up for his absense. Jarvis never talked back to the Knight again and from that day forward did his best to become an example Knight to make House Vernhail proud.

Today he is in charge of training small groups of new recruits to Vernhail's small army. He's traveled back to Hanalan on occasion, from being assigned to guard caravans to simply using an earned leave from duty to see the country again. He has four dogs, a Basset Hound named Magmadar, a Bulldog named Chromaggus, and two young mutts named Bhargest and Shucks. Shucks is extremely friendly and playful, while his other three dogs are very gruff much like he is. Chromaggus is the meanest of the four and Jarvis is the only person that Chromaggus is tolerant of.


PERSONALITY;
Jarvis seems perpetually grumpy, in an old man sort of way. He has a quick temper and often grumbles about the state of things, knights, and pretty much anything you can think of. He's even been known to give the standard "back in my day" speeches from time to time. Despite putting most people off, he's very devoted to the family of House Vernhail and perhaps even more devoted to the multitude of animals he keeps in and around his house. He's surprisingly less gruff with animals and often talks with them, especially his constant canine companions, on a daily basis.


APPEARANCE;
Jarvis has a slight tan, a somewhat wrinkled face, and long blond hair, that's gone gray much earlier than one would expect and which he keeps in a neat pony tail. He always seems to be frowning, unless he's around his animals, when he seems to be whatever his equivalent of happy is. He also wears a strange pair of glasses that are way too small for his head and often seem to fit tightly against his eyes, adding to his rather frightening demeanor. He's built with wide shoulders and stands at a good 6'0", and he tends to wear simple clothes in darker colors when he's not in his full suit of armor.
